PARMA Member Spotlight
Meet Theresa Bucci
How did you get into Risk Management?
I started in the insurance industry in 1996 working for The Doctor’s Company. I then moved on to Keenan & Associates for a few years working with the school districts and now at the County of Ventura for 17 years as the Insurance & Subrogation Specialist. I love what I do, I love the County of Ventura, and how I get to help the 26 agencies at the county and the public.
What are the rewards you experience professionally by being a PARMA member?
Learning and networking. Those are two valuable components you get with PARMA. Sometimes it’s learning something new and sometimes it’s learning that you are doing it all right and that’s a good thing too!
How has your professional knowledge expanded by interacting with other PARMA members?
I specialize in insurance. Through PARMA, I get to learn other Risk Management topics such as Workers’ Compensation, Safety, and Liability. It’s nice to learn something new and expand your knowledge in all things Risk Management.
When did you start realizing you wanted to move into leadership role within PARMA?
For one I love to help, and I have always valued PARMA. When Leonardo Selvaggi took over as Chair, I already enjoyed working for him at the County so I thought it would be a great opportunity to assist him as Chair of Gold Coast PARMA as well.
After being a member in PARMA for some time now, how essential was joining your professional association?
I think it’s very essential. Public Entities are a breed of their own. We need to be able to learn from each other and lean on each other.
How would you respond to a risk manager who says they don’t have time to participate in PARMA and or moving towards a leadership position?
We all are busy. If you’re not learning you’re not growing. And you never know who you are going to meet you could really help, or vice versa. We’re all going through the same issues. Why recreate the wheel when someone may already have the answer.
What do you see being one of the largest challenges for the future of risk management?
Currently the insurance market! Rates are skyrocketing and brokers are having a difficult time finding carriers to place coverage with.
How will PARMA respond to the challenge?
By covering these topics at the local level and at the PARMA Conference to keep members educated. I already see a few sessions at the PARMA 2022 Conference that discuss it. Exactly why the ones not attending the conference should!
