Job Description

The City is currently seeking a Senior Risk Analyst. The Senior Risk Analyst will be responsible for the management of Risk Services activities including Workers Compensation Administration and the facilitation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations within Human Resources. The ideal candidate will be able to balance productive work along with excellent customer service, in a collaborative team setting and have a strong working knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations relative to Workers’ Compensation and ADA. This position will be the primary analyst responsible for facilitating ADA accommodation interactive processes, Industrial Disability Retirements (IDR), and monitoring the activities of the City’s Workers’ Compensation third-party administrator(TPA), including full internal life cycle claims management, approval of compensability decisions and escalation of settlement authority requests. Under general direction, provides administrative, statistical, claims, and confidential staff analysis for the Risk Services division of the Human Resources Department; assists in the administration of various claims management activities for any of the myriad self-insured or fully insured Risk Services programs, to include workers’ compensation, general liability, various property related programs, safety, Industrial Disability Retirements (IDR), ergonomic evaluations, subrogation, American Disability Act (ADA) accommodations, contracts, and insurance renewals and approvals; performs case evaluation and formulates recommendations on case litigation and settlement matters on behalf of the City; assists in the review and development of statistical data, reports, policies and other materials within the City’s various risk programs; makes recommendations for action on insurance, loss control and other risk allocation/transfer matters, claim issues, and other projects; and performs related work as assigned. Senior Risk Analyst is the working lead level in the series. Incumbents possess detailed knowledge of City’s risk management, casualty, property, occupational, industrial safety, and related programs. This class is distinguished from the Risk Manager in that the latter has overall responsivity for the Risk Management functions.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience: Senior Risk Analyst: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, public administration, or a related field and three years of experience adjusting and/or processing claims, administering a comprehensive safety program, or a closely related field. Experience in a public agency setting is desirable. Other Requirements: Must possess a valid California driver’s license. For positions assigned to Worker’s Compensation: Must obtain the Self-Insurance Administrator’s certification within one (1) year of appointment. For positions assigned to manage the City insurance program: Possession of a Chartered property Casualty Underwriter Designation (CPCU) is highly desirable. For positions assigned to Risk Management: Possession of an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is highly desirable.
