9:15-10:30 a.m. What Now? – The Challenges of Work Restrictions in Industrial Injuries

The transition process of bringing an employee back to work following an industrial injury can be dicult, and even more so when the employee has been given work restrictions by his or her treating physician. Additional challenges occur when there are conicting opinions between the treating physician and a medical-legal evaluator. Who has the nal say? What if the organization cannot accommodate the employee with those work restrictions? What if the employee disagrees with the work restrictions altogether? How does one handle situations with safety employees (Police & Fire) versus non-safety personnel? This session will help educate attendees on strategies to employ and pitfalls to avoid when dealing with this process.

10:45-12:00 p.m. The Costs of Sexual Assault and Molestation

Presenter: Craig Bowlus, Managing Director – AON Risk Solutions

A 2018 California AL/GL study including a dozen K-12 school pools generated a data base including 14,000 occurrences. This data represents over 60% of the state’s average daily attendance over the last 10 years. Less than 2% of the occurrences involve sexual abuse or molestation (SAM), however, 37 of these occurrences (97 individual claims in total) resulted in incurred values in excess of $1 million. These 37 occurrences alone represent $148 million in total incurred value. Adding the balance of California’s ADA would increase this to almost $250 million. While sexual abuse or molestation claims represented less than 2% of the frequency, they accounted for almost 20% of total AL/GL incurred values in California schools over the past 10 years. This session will address multiple ndings associated with this result and provide recommendations to help mitigate this increasing trend.
