Established in 1986, SELF is one of the largest and most successful risk pools in the country providing excess liability coverage solely to California’s public educational agencies. Members of SELF include K-12 districts, community college districts, charter schools, county offices of education and regional occupational programs equating to approximately 2.5 million students.
SELF is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Liability Claims Manager to join our collaborative and mission driven team. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned claims professional with expertise in complex liability litigation, claims strategy and litigation management to play a key role within SELF's Excess Liability Program, under the general supervision of SELF's Director of Claims. Key highlights of the position include: Management of complex liability and litigation matters Strategic collaboration with defense counsel and members Participation in mediations, settlement conferences and trial preparations Advanced claims analysis, reserve management and litigation strategy skills SELF offers a competitive compensation package including CalPERS retirement and a generous health and welfare benefit package. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 15 years of increasingly responsible experience in casualty insurance claims adjusting, reporting, management and settlement work. We are looking for a highly motivated professional who will bring deep experience managing high exposure claims, partnering with defense counsel, advising on litigation strategy and working collaboratively with members and stakeholders.
