Job Description

We’re looking for a dynamic risk professional to lead the County’s Risk Management Division and drive its initiatives. The Risk Management Division includes our Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and Safety functions, and is part of the Human Resources Department. The Risk Manager will play a critical role in safeguarding County resources and staff to help ensure the sustainability of County operations. They will conduct risk assessments of the County’s facilities, programs, and operations to identify potential vulnerabilities, and will recommend and implement appropriate strategies and tools that mitigate risk, promote safety, and strengthen compliance. Working closely with HR leadership, County Counsel, the Administrative Office, and various department leaders, the Risk Manager will leverage their influence to shape behaviors and spearhead projects. They will promote and embed best practices and policies across County operations, providing data-driven analysis to educate stakeholders, inform process improvement, and increase accountability. Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, risk management, public administration, or a closely related field. In addition, six years of increasingly responsible experience performing professional-level work in risk management (including insurance and claims management for general liability, property, and other liability programs), workers’ compensation, or employee safety work, including at least two years of supervisory experience or management of a significant program. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Certain positions in this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver’s license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Completion of OSHA 30 Hour Certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of appointment. This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.
