POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Safety and Prevention Education provides risk management expertise to CharterSAFE and our members throughout California in childhood sexual assault prevention, wildfire prevention, and contract review as it relates to insurance and indemnity. The role supports members by delivering consultative risk management solutions through proactive in-person and virtual training and guidance before, during, and after a loss.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Member Engagement and Training
• Productive in a fast-paced role with expectations
• Develop course/session material for conferences, meetings, and one-on-one member training.
• Deliver risk management training in various formats—both in-person and virtual—to meet members where they are and build capacity.
• Support members at their physical locations throughout California as needed.
Risk Prevention and Consultation
• Consult with members regarding risk management, including childhood sexual assault prevention, wildfire mitigation, and post-event response, and reviewing contracts to ensure optimal insurance and indemnity requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop supporting templates, training resources, and processes focused on prevention and mitigation.
Strategic and Internal Support
• Participate in developing and executing departmental goals, objectives, and initiatives.
• Provide contract reviews for appropriate insurance and indemnification language; advise on insurance requirements and risk-shifting provisions.
• Attend internal staff meetings, seminars, and conferences as needed.
• Create and update content in the risk management section of the website.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
• Ten years of public entity risk management experience.
• Five years of experience in childhood sexual assault prevention and mitigation.
• Five years of experience specific to California charter schools highly preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• ARM and CSRM designations preferred.

• Ability to visit school campuses throughout California, assess member needs, and execute training and safety initiatives.

• Ability to think strategically about school risk trends and recommend scalable prevention solutions.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, including reaching, fine manual dexterity, pushing/pulling, talking/hearing, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Occasional standing and walking.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
• Home office work environment is quiet, private, and distraction-free.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection.
• Ability to access and navigate the physical environment at each member’s location/facility.
• Ability to travel to conduct training at member sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Besides working at your home office, you may be required to work in a variety of other settings when traveling to CharterSAFE member locations, conferences, or other meetings.
• Potential hazards include contact with dissatisfied individuals.
