Job Title: Safety/Loss Prevention Manager
Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA) is recruiting for a Safety/Loss Prevention Manager. The selected candidate will assist in the transition of the safety and loss prevention functions from a contracted service to an in-house function. It is anticipated that the Safety/Loss Prevention Manager will build a team of safety/loss prevention specialists to serve SDRMA members throughout the state of California.
About the Position
Working under the direction of the Chief Risk Officer, the Safety/Loss Prevention Manager will perform the following essential duties:
•Coordinating and/or conducting on-site safety inspections for members throughout California.
•Overseeing contracts with vendors providing safety and loss prevention training.
•Assisting members in complying with Cal-OSHA worker safety-related programs (IIPP, Heat Illness Prevention)
•Providing technical support to members in their implementation of recommendations/action plans and following up with members on recommended action plans.
•Providing recommendations on compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, or standards to reduce loss exposures.
•Preparing and presenting reports that outline action plan for improved practices to members and Chief Risk Officer.
•Monitoring loss development by member and for the entire pool.
•Reviewing loss runs to identify trends and develop loss control strategies by member and for the entire pool.
•Developing and presenting education and training programs to members; and
•Responding to member loss control and provide technical loss prevention assistance.
The Safety/Loss Prevention Manager is expected to travel frequently, both by car and by air, including frequent absences from home for one or more nights. Working nights, weekends or holidays may occasionally be required/necessary.
The successful candidate will possess the following education, experience, and credentials:
•Bachelor's Degree in directly related field or equivalent and seven years directly related, technical experience, including three years supervision.
•Experience in developing and conducting loss prevention training modules for members; or
•An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
•A valid California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable that meets the standard/policy that applies to the Authority’s members; and
•One Professional Designation such as: Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS), or Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS).
Public agency experience is preferred.
